Arizona Diamondbacks owner Kevin Towers says he is creating a new mascot for the franchise and a new way to show the team’s history.
The team unveiled its new mascot, the Marbles Run, on Tuesday as part of a marketing blitz to highlight the team, including an ad featuring a black marble statue on the front of a building.
The ad is also slated to run on TV and radio in Arizona.
“This new mascot is a way for us to celebrate our history and our team, as well as a way to connect with our fans, and so I think it’s a great way to continue that tradition,” Towers said during a press conference.
Towers said the mascot will be a “fiery” black marble that appears to be a little bit larger than a basketball.
The marble run is set to run in the Arizona Diamonds’ ballpark, and the team hopes to launch a partnership with local businesses.
The Arizona Diamondheads are owned by the Arizona Cardinals.
